Iran: Death to pornographers

Iran’s parliament overwhelming approved a bill Wednesday threatening those convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies (this includes actors, producers, directors—even the cameraman isn’t safe) with the death penalty. After a popular actress rocked the Islamic Republic last year with her steamy sex scandal, Iranian lawmakers must have decided that these kinds of “loose morals” can only be brought under control through capital punishment:

Producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corruptors of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corruptors of the world.

In a country with a booming black market for bootleg porn DVDs, it’s a good thing the legislators acted now before any more of this vice found its way into the homes of impressionable, unsuspecting citizens.
