FOREIGN POLICY ANNOUNCES NEW MANAGING EDITOR
Newsweek Internationals William J. Dobson to Lead Award-Winning Staff

FOREIGN POLICYthe award-winning magazine of global politics, economics, and ideasannounced today that William J. Dobson will become its new managing editor. Dobson, previously Newsweek Internationals Senior Editor for Asia, will work closely with FP Editor Publisher Moiss Nam to oversee the editorial production and planning of the magazine and will commission and edit feature articles, reviews, and essays.

Four years after re-launching as a general-interest publication, FOREIGN POLICY continues to be one of the fastest growing magazines in its category, Nam said. In addition to bringing his proven leadership, Dobsons expertise on Asia will further strengthen FPs insight into a region that is increasingly at the center of world affairs.

Under Dobson’s direction, Newsweek International’s Asia coverage was recognized with the overall award for general excellence by the Society of Publishers in Asia in 2003 and 2004. His new position marks a return to FOREIGN POLICY, where he served as a junior fellow and editorial assistant early in his career. He also served previously as an associate editor at Foreign Affairs.

It has been a pleasure to see FOREIGN POLICYs transformation from a small policy journal into one of the worlds leading general-interest magazines, Dobson said. I look forward to continuing the success that has brought it much-deserved recognition.

Since re-launching in 2000, FP has garnered industry-wide recognition for editorial achievement. Its awards include the 2003 National Magazine Award for General Excellence by the American Society of Magazine Editors and Folio magazines Editorial Excellence Award in 2001.

Dobson has published widely on international affairs. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, The New Republic, and elsewhere. He has been named a 2004 New Asian Leader by the World Economic Forum, a Harvard Negotiation Fellow, and a Knight Fellow to the Salzburg Seminar. A 1994 Truman Scholar, he received a B.A. in History from Middlebury College. He holds a master’s degree in East Asian studies from Harvard University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Complete bios and areas of expertise for all of FPs editorial staff are available online.
