The awards had quite a mix of presenters, including CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Meg Ryan, Alek Wek, and Martha Stewart. Wynton Marsalis was in the building. Francis Ford Coppola was there because the magazine he founded, Zoetrope: All-Story, was up for an award.

Before the awards, some FPers met a fellow named Jeff Bercovici of Women’s Wear Daily, who initially told us, “Oh, Foreign Policy, I think I voted for you guys” in the Gawker Ellies pool. But alas, he misremembered. He actually penciled in Harper’s on his ballot. And as it turns out Harper’s won the award and Jeff won the pool. That didn’t make it less of a good time.
