Props to my former colleague Abrahm Lustgarten, who wrote a magnificent story for Fortune magazine about how China is building a railway to Tibet. Mao Zedong's dream of 40 years ago will finally be realized this summer when the railway is completed, tying the roof of the world that much closer to the Middle Kingdom. The project cost $4.2 billion and spans 710 miles. It will be really interesting to see what the political ramifications are for the Free Tibet movement, as well how the railway might change the economic landscape of Central Asia.
