Australian Prime Minister John Howard and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ran into each other during their power walks yesterday on the Indonesian resort island of Batam.

A sweaty Mr Howard, dressed in shorts and a Melbourne Commonwealth Games polo shirt, and Dr Yudhoyono, wearing Indonesian resort wear, embraced as Mr Howard declared it was "terrific to see you again".

This chance meeting was the first time the two have met in three months after a dispute broke out between the two countries over asylum-seekers from Indonesia who were granted entry into Australia.
