The World Bank isn't all sturm und drang, as recent events might lead one to believe (by the way, CNN just reported that Robert Zoellick will indeed be the U.S. nominee to replace the ousted Paul Wolfowitz). The venerable development institution actually does a ton of great work around the globe. One of the World Bank products that I find most revealing is its annual Doing Business report, which has metastasized into a veritable online institution of its own. Recently, the Bank added this snazzy Google maps mashup that shows the relative ease of doing business in 175 countries. As you can no doubt guess from a visual scan of West Africa, red means bad:
