FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, March 19, 2008; Washington, D.C.
For the fourth straight year, Foreign Policy has been nominated for the magazine industrys most coveted prize, the National Magazine Award for General Excellence. The finalists for the awards, presented by the American Society of Magazine Editors, were announced today in New York City.
The General Excellence nomination is Foreign Policys fifth in the past six years. The magazine won the Ellie for General Excellence in both 2003 and 2007. Since 2005, no other publication of its size has received more General Excellence nominations.
In reaction to the nomination, Foreign Policy Editor in Chief Moiss Nam said, We are honored that the work of FPs staff, authors, and illustrators has once again been recognized by its peers. There is no more discriminating audience than the editors of the nations leading magazines. Now more than ever, the world needs a clear, concise, and accessible explanation of the trends and events that shape our lives. This recognition serves to redouble our commitment to that mission.
Jessica T. Mathews, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, which publishes Foreign Policy, said, Foreign Policys repeated recognition is a salute to its ability to provide innovative insights from the worlds leading minds issue after issue. The Carnegie Endowment and its board take enormous pride in the magazines accomplishments.
The 2008 finalists were chosen from 1,964 entries submitted by 333 print and online publications. Winners of the 43rd annual awards will be announced at a black-tie gala at New Yorks Jazz at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, May 1, 2008.
