TPM's Greg Sargent relays, for me, the very good news about Senator James Webb: Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country. Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President. My reaction: Why? Admittedly, I was never a big fan of Webb. When I testified at the Senate Foreign Relations committee, however, my Webbophobia kicked up a notch. He wasn't flying off the handle or anything like that -- he was just bound and determined not to hear the answer I was giving him at one point. [Why do you care who Obama picks?--ed. Because I think he's very likely to win, which means his VP pick will immediately be a party leader, and I'd like to see a pick that doesn't make Richard Gephardt look like a free trader.]
