I look forward to seeing Best Defense readers out there.

By the way, your comments on this site are great, generally thoughtful and informed. I say that because I was disappointed by many of the comments posted on the Washington Post’s Web site yesterday by people who saw my book excerpt in the Outlook section there.

I don’t mind people disagreeing with me — in fact, I like it, because I often can learn something. I especially liked the reactions readers posted to my series of posts on last summer’s battle in Wanat, Afghanistan.  But I do mind people who didn’t even read the Outlook piece but still think the world should attend to their comments on it. So it is relief to come back here to this more specialized site and see that serious people are reading it and offering their own views.
