Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indeed selected historian and writer Michael Oren to serve as his envoy to Washington, Reuters reports, citing Israeli political sources.
The Cable among other outlets reported chatter that Oren was being considered for the job a few weeks back.
The American born Oren, who earned a PhD from Princeton University, emigrated from the U.S. to Israel in the 1970s, and has written a best selling book, Six Days of War. He has been serving as a visiting professor this term at Georgetown University, JTA reported. He could not immediately be reached.
UPDATE: Another source says Oren cancelled a speech he was supposed to give at Middlebury this weekend, telling the school he was being nominated.
Reached by email, Oren said he may have more information Sunday night.
