Whether you’re an accidental tourist or a serious investor, calculating exchange rates can make your head hurt. When the dollar spikes, the euro dips, and the yen appreciates, how much is your money worth?

The PACIFIC exchange rate service of the University of British Columbia brings together a number of tools to help sort out the dizzying movement of capital across international borders. Tourists and casual investors will find a personal currency assistant that instantaneously converts figures from one currency to another, as well as information on exchange-rate regimes around the world. For more serious investors and academics, the site offers daily quotes for about 200 different currencies. Plus, a large, user-friendly historical database allows browsers to create quick graphs and matrices with time-series data for 89 currencies.
