Col. William Bernhard is 79 and he’s volunteered to go overseas, according to the April issue of the newsletter of the Combat Helicopter Pilots Association.
He’s a flight surgeon, a mountain climber, and a retired anesthesiologist. He did tours in Iraq in 2005, in Afghanistan in 2006 and in Germany in 2007. He says he plans to get out of the military around the time he turns 80.
