I see that Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, Husain Haqqani, has approvingly tweeted my post yesterday on India being identified by SIPRI as the world's largest arms importer. I appreciate the plug, though to be fair, it should be pointed out that Pakistan, according to SIPRI, with less than a fifth of India's population, accounts for 5 percent of the world's arms imports and increased those imports by 128 percent between the periods of 2001-2005 and 2006-2010.

I appreciate the plug, though to be fair, it should be pointed out that Pakistan, according to SIPRI, with less than a fifth of India’s population, accounts for 5 percent of the world’s arms imports and increased those imports by 128 percent between the periods of 2001-2005 and 2006-2010. 

At the risk of setting off a flame war in the comments, it should just be said that the massive military buildup in South Asia isn’t really very safe for either side.
