Watch the Massive Explosion That Just Lit Up a Chinese City

The cause of the explosion was reportedly related to a shipment of explosives to the city's port.

A huge explosion rocked the Chinese city of Tianjin late Wednesday, sending a fireball over the night sky and raising a mushroom cloud over the port city. The first explosion appears to have caused additional blasts.

A huge explosion rocked the Chinese city of Tianjin late Wednesday, sending a fireball over the night sky and raising a mushroom cloud over the port city. The first explosion appears to have caused additional blasts.

According to the BBC, Chinese state media is reporting that the explosion was caused by a shipment of explosives to the port. Chinese police have told the Associated Press that at least seven people have died in the city of 14 million. Chinese state media is reporting that between 300 and 400 have been admitted to local hospitals.

Chinese social media users captured the blast on video, and the footage is stunning. This video was one of the first to begin circulating of the blast, which appears to have been preceded by a fire.
