Brian Stout is a copy editor at Foreign Policy. Before joining FP in May 2016, he was an Africa researcher in the U.S. intelligence community following stints at the State Department and in Congress. Brian copy-edited the series of articles for which FP was nominated as a finalist for the 2017 National Magazine Awards for print and digital media in the reporting category. He is a fellow of the Academy of Political Science and serves on the reader committee for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. He holds a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and a master’s degree from Maastricht University. A native of the Washington, D.C., area, Brian has also lived in Jordan, Ghana, and the Netherlands.
