Watch Day 2 of our program (Dec. 2, 2021) here.
Global food insecurity has been on the rise. A changing climate and more frequent environmental disasters, coupled with economic disruptions, are exposing deficiencies and vulnerabilities in an unsustainable global food system. Experts warn of a growing severity and magnitude of food crises around the world, with at least 155 million people already facing hunger and malnutrition. Can the international community mobilize the level of action needed to transform our global food systems to benefit people and the planet?
It’s clear that radical shifts and new approaches are needed to achieve a more sustainable development of agriculture worldwide, not only to feed a growing global population and keep up with the rapid pace of environmental change, but to foster a more resilient, sustainable and equitable food supply. World leaders are mobilizing policy action and resource commitments, but what is needed to translate ambition into tangible solutions? How can government and industry, science and farming communities work together to secure food systems and reduce their impact on the environment?
Foreign Policy’s third annual Food+ Summit convened leading government officials, industry experts and stakeholders where they discussed innovative practices, technological advances and partnerships to feed the world while conserving and restoring the earth’s ecosystems. We heard from innovators and disruptors along the food value chain about efforts underway at the global and local levels and how individuals can make a difference on their dinner plates.
