FP Virtual Dialogue: How to Stop Vaccine Misinformation
Mitigating harmful content in the fight for global health
As world leaders race to vaccinate their populations against COVID-19, they face a formidable obstacle: misinformation. False claims about vaccines are proliferating around the world, exploiting gaps in education, fears over ethnic and racial divides, and a lack of trust in government.
FP and Northwestern University’s Roberta Buffett Institute for Global Affairs hosted a critical discussion to understand, and overcome, the misinformation clouding the world’s COVID-19 response. We explored the attitudes and histories underlying vaccine reluctance and highlighted the steps that officials in government, public health, and media must take to combat the deadly spread of “fake news”—and ensure an end to this devastating pandemic.
